Post-Purchase Upsell — Checkout Boost
Present targeted product offers immediately after checkout — before the thank-you page. One-click acceptance, no re-entry of payment details, zero risk to conversion.
How to Activate Post-Purchase Upsell
Post-purchase extensions require a one-time setup inside your Shopify admin before any funnel will appear to customers.
Step 1 — Product source options
- From your Shopify admin, go to Settings → Checkout
- Scroll down to the Post-purchase page section
- Click the dropdown under "Add an app" and select Checkout Boost
- Click Save
Important:
This step must be completed first. Without it, customers will skip directly to the thank-you page regardless of your funnel configuration.
Step 2 — Create a Funnel in Checkout Boost
- Open Checkout Boost from your Shopify admin
- Navigate to Post-Purchase in the left sidebar
- Click Create funnel
- Give your funnel a name (e.g., "Accessory Upsell" or "First-Time Buyer Offer")
- Configure each step:
- Choose a product
- Set an optional discount
- Add display conditions
6. Click Save
Step 3 — Enable the Funnel
After saving, activate your funnel:
- From the funnel editor — use the status toggle in the top action bar, or
- From the funnel list page — use the Activate action in the row menu
Note:
Only active funnels are shown to customers. Priority order on the list page controls which funnel fires first when multiple conditions are met
Step 4 — Test Your Funne
- Place a test order using a Shopify test gateway or real payment
- Complete checkout as a customer would
- Confirm the post-purchase offer appears after order confirmation
Tip:
Use the Customer selection condition to target only your account during testing so live shoppers are not affected.
Key Features
1. Multi-Step Funnel Builder
Create a sequential upsell flow with up to:
- 3 Upsells (primary offers)
- 2 Downsells (fallback offers)
Each step appears only if the previous one is declined.
2. Product Source Options
Choose how products are selected:
- Manual Selection — Pick a specific product or variant
- Automatic (AI-assisted) — Recommendations based on cart contents
- Collection-based — First eligible product from a chosen collection
3. Discount Integration
- Apply percentage or fixed discounts
- No code entry required
- Display savings messaging (e.g., "Add this for just $12 — 40% off")
- Discount applies only on acceptance
4. Conditional Display Rules
Control when funnels appear based on:
- Order contents (products, collections, variants)
- Order value (subtotal thresholds)
- Customer tags (VIP, wholesale, etc.)
- Customer selection (specific users)
- Subscription vs. one-time purchases
Multiple funnels can run simultaneously, with priority determining which displays.
5. One-Click Acceptance
- No re-entering payment details
- Secure processing via Shopify
- Loading indicator during processing
- Prevents duplicate submissions
- Automatically moves to next step on decline
6. Funnel Priority
When multiple funnels qualify for the same checkout, the priority order determines which one is shown.
To ensure the right funnel is triggered:
- Place more specific rules (e.g., product-based offers) at the top
- Keep broader rules (e.g., “all customers”) lower in the list so they don’t override targeted funnels
You can simply drag and reorder the funnels to adjust their priority.
7. Analytics & Conversion Tracking
Track performance directly in the dashboard:
- Impressions — Times an offer is shown
- Conversions — Accepted offers
- Revenue — Total upsell revenue
- Revenue per visit — Value per impression
Conversion rate — Acceptance percentage
8. Plan Access
- Available on Pro plan and above
- Starter plan allows preview only (no activation)
