Overview:
Content blocks are static, non-interactive components that let you show the right reassurance, pricing clarity, and information at critical moments in checkout, directly addressing common drop‑off reasons like lack of trust, confusion, or perceived high prices.
1. Content blocks overview
There are two main families of content blocks:
- Text-based blocks (headings, paragraphs, banners, benefit lists, buttons, links, etc.) for messaging, explanations, and microcopy.
- Image-based blocks (trust badges, payment icons, social icons) for visual trust cues and social proof.
Each block has a high-level configuration similar to forms: you decide where and when it should appear, and you receive a Content Block ID that must be added in Shopify’s checkout editor so the block renders in the right location.
2. Text-based content blocks
Text content blocks are built from a library of reusable elements that you can mix and match inside a single block.
- At the block level, you configure title/label, description (optional), visibility rules (for example only for new customers, specific countries, or high cart values), and obtain the block ID for checkout placement.
- At the element level, you can add and reorder components like Heading, Text, Banner, Benefits, Button, Link, and (soon) Countdown timer, each with its own settings for style, alignment, and emphasis.
Element types and examples
- Heading: Large, bold titles such as “Why our prices look higher (and what you get)” or “Secure & hassle-free returns”.
- Text: Body copy for FAQs, shipping notes, tax explanations, or short guarantees (for example, “Prices include all duties and taxes for EU orders”).
- Banner: Highlight important notices with tone presets like Success, Warning, Error, Information (for example, “Free returns within 30 days” as Success, or “Some items ship separately” as Info).
- Benefits: Icon + text rows to list 3–4 key benefits: “Free shipping over ₹999”, “24/7 support”, “Secure SSL checkout”, “Easy returns”.
- Button: Optional action like “View full returns policy” or “Chat with support”, typically linking to a help page or opening your store’s chat widget.
- Link: Inline links to policies, FAQs, or sizing guides to remove last‑minute doubts without leaving checkout entirely.
- Countdown Timer (coming soon): Time-based urgency message for limited offers or shipping cutoffs (for example, “Order within 01:23:45 for dispatch today”).
Use case examples
1. Price reassurance block next to order summary:
- Heading: “Transparent pricing, no hidden fees”.
- Text: “All taxes are included. You’ll see final shipping before you pay.”
- Benefits row: “Secure payments · Easy returns · Genuine products only”.
2. Policy & trust block near payment step:
- Banner (Info): “We never store your full card details.”
- Text: “Transactions are processed via PCI-compliant gateways such as Razorpay, Stripe, or PayPal.”
- Link: “View payment & security policy”.
3. Image-based content blocks (trust & social proof)
mage-based content blocks focus on visual signals that quickly build trust and familiarity without requiring reading.
- Trust badges: Library of 50+ badges (secure checkout, money-back guarantee, free returns, SSL secure, etc.) optimized for checkout usability.
- Payment icons: 400+ payment logos (Visa, Mastercard, Amex, UPI, RuPay, PayPal, Apple Pay, Google Pay, Klarna, etc.) to reassure customers that their preferred and trusted payment methods are supported.
- Social icons: 24 social media icons (Instagram, Facebook, TikTok, YouTube, Pinterest, X/Twitter, LinkedIn, etc.), useful when you want to highlight your active community and brand presence without pulling users away from checkout.
If a merchant cannot find a suitable trust badge in the library, your team can design and add a new badge within 48 hours at no extra cost, ensuring branding and compliance needs are always met.
Placement examples
- Under payment section: Display “Secure checkout” badge plus payment icons to reduce fear of card theft and increase completion rates.
- Near order summary: Show badges like “30‑day returns”, “Price match guarantee”, or “Authentic products only” to justify pricing and reassure first‑time buyers.
- At footer of checkout: Place social media icons and a small “Join 50k+ customers on Instagram” message to provide subtle social proof without distracting from the “Pay now” step.
4. Display rules and targeting
Like other features, content blocks support rule‑based visibility so you can tailor messages to customer, cart, and context.
- You can show or hide a block based on conditions such as customer tags (wholesale vs retail), location, subtotal thresholds, specific products in cart, or shipping method.
- This lets you avoid generic, noisy messaging and instead present only the information that is relevant to that buyer’s scenario.
Examples:
1. Wholesale-only pricing explanation:
- Rule: Customer tag includes “Wholesale”.
- Block: Explain minimum order quantities, negotiated pricing, and tax handling.
2. High-value cart reassurance:
- Rule: Subtotal ≥ $10,000.
- Block: Add “High-value order protection” content with extra warranty, insurance, and support messaging to reduce anxiety.
3. Region-specific shipping/tax note:
- Rule: Shipping country = “United States” or “EU”.
- Block: Show localized information about duties, delivery time estimates, and return locations.
5. How content blocks reduce abandonment
Content blocks directly target the main psychological barriers that drive checkout abandonment.
- Trust badges and payment icons address security concerns and legitimacy doubts, which are proven to meaningfully reduce cart and checkout abandonment when placed close to payment forms and CTAs.
- Clear copy (banners, headings, benefit lists) explains shipping costs, return policies, delivery timelines, and pricing structure upfront, reducing surprise, confusion, and last‑minute hesitation.
By combining rule-based targeting, strong text elements, and a rich library of visual trust assets, content blocks help convert uncertain visitors into confident buyers without adding friction or extra steps in checkout.
